History of Bellarmine College in Baguio and its connection to Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan
The Fu Jen Faculty of Theology of St. Robert Bellarmine (Chinese: 輔仁聖博敏神學院), often referred to as St. Bellarmine Seminary, is a Catholic theological institution located in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. It is affiliated with Fu Jen Catholic University and serves as the only Catholic theological seminary in Taiwan.
Founded in 1929 in Shanghai, the faculty (Bellarmine College) was moved to Mirador Jesuit Villa in Baguio City, Philippines when Jesuit missionaries were expelled from China in 1952. This house of studies for Jesuits stayed in Baguio until 1967.
Bellarmine College later moved from Baguio to Taipei (New Taipei City) to serve the ecclesiastical needs of Taiwan, authorized to confer degrees in Sacred Theology.
While there was a “Bellarmine College” (1952-1967) associated with Baguio in the past, it was transferred to Taipei to become the current theology faculty under the Fu Jen system.
